I have an office in the Foster-Powell Neighborhood in Southeast Portland on Mondays and Wednesdays. You can see pictures of this office throughout the website.
Some individuals prefer in-person therapy, if your home is busy or you find you get distracted there. In-person therapy can also be helpful because it provides a physical place to “leave” the work done in therapy. This can foster separation between the difficult things discussed in sessions and the rest of your life.
Parking is available on the street and side streets. There are bike lanes along Foster in front of the building, and the practice is accessible by the 14 bus line. Please note that there is a staircase to enter the office, and unfortunately, there is no elevator.
Feel free to reach out to see if in-person therapy is right for you!
This therapy can help you turn the page in your story, so that past events are no longer in the present. It can help you integrate information you know logically, but don’t fully believe.
EMDR is an evidence-based, research-proven treatment that is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO). Research shows that EMDR is effective for PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health needs. EMDR utilizes your brain’s natural pathways to reduce distress associated with unpleasant memories or experiences and promote healing.
It uses bilateral or dual stimulation through tactile, auditory, or visual eye movements. This rhythm can be calming when processing memories.
I am EMDRIA certified, which means I have completed a higher level of training than basic training EMDR practitioners. Being EMDRIA certified means I regularly complete continuing education on EMDR therapy to grow my skills and integrate the latest research findings into my sessions.
You can learn more about EMDR from EMDRIA’s website
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapy for PTSD. It focuses on challenging your thoughts about yourself and the world that has been impacted by a traumatic event. By challenging these thoughts, you can help become unstuck from that past event.
CPT is a structured therapy using worksheets that you complete between sessions. CPT involves 12 weekly therapy sessions.
This American Life completed a podcast about CPT sessions, which you can listen to here.
Description goes hereI have telehealth or virtual sessions on Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Telehealth can be helpful if you have a busy schedule, limited transportation, or live far away from Portland. Telehealth is available to anyone in Oregon. You may prefer telehealth if you feel more comfortable being in your own space and having comfort items or pets around you.
All you need for telehealth is a private space that feels comfortable, a good Wi-Fi or internet connection, and a device with a camera. If you are able to stream videos on the internet, your connection is typically strong enough for telehealth. Typically, hands-free devices work best.
I utilize a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform and have completed telehealth training to enhance my competency as a telehealth provider.
EMDR and CPT can both be completed via telehealth.
