Frequently Asked Questions
Will I get a diagnosis?
Whenever you attend therapy services and use insurance, you are given a diagnosis so that insurance can provide payment. Some individuals decide to use self-pay to prevent diagnoses from being reported to their insurance. For some diagnoses, such as ADHD or Autism, it is recommended to receive psychological testing to officially receive this diagnosis.
Can EMDR be done online?
EMDR can definitely be done online! I use a website that has audio and visual bilateral stimulation. Some folks prefer to do self-tapping for bilateral stimulation instead. Before 2020, people would say that EMDR could only be done in person; however, there is now research that suggests EMDR can be completed online with similar effects.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is focused on getting to know you, so we can set goals for our work together. I’ll ask questions about physical health, mental health, your history, and social support. Although it will include more questions than typical sessions, I aim to make it a conversational experience, going at your pace. It is okay if we don’t answer all the questions in the first session, and it is okay if you are not ready to discuss your past experiences.
How do I know if a therapist is a good fit for me?
Research shows that you will do best with a therapist you feel comfortable with and who you feel understands you. The first session can be uncomfortable, because you are talking to a new person. Sometimes we know right away if a therapist is not a fit, but most of the time it takes 3-5 sessions before we really know if we are a good fit. A free 15-minute video consultation call can be a great way to ask questions and see if we may be a good fit. You can ask about my experience, therapy style, and any questions that are important to you. Feel free to call me or send me an email using the contact page to set up a consultation!
What should I ask insurance?
It is recommended to contact your insurance provider to verify that therapy is covered under your plan. You can call the number on the back of your insurance card or find many answers on their insurance app or portal. Here are some questions that folks like to ask their insurance:
Is Shayla Krecklow in network?
Do I have a deductible?
What is my coinsurance?
Do I have a copay?
